NEW LONDON, N.H.- The Colby-Sawyer College men's tennis team defeated Nichols College today, 7-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) tournament quarterfinal action. With their seventh straight win, the Chargers advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the eighth straight season.
For Colby-Sawyer, Ryan Murray (Killingworth, Conn.) and Ben Taylor (Derry, N.H.) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while Ben Dabush (Weston, Conn.) and Justin Tardif (Biddeford, Maine) won the No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
In singles play, Tardif was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 1 while Dabush earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Evan Campbell (White River Junction, Vt.) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 4, Bryan Racz (Stratton, Vt.) won the No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Trevor Davis (Bath, Maine) was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at No. 6.
For Nichols, Jack Baker (Cheshire, Conn.) and Kevin Pittz (Delmar, N.Y.) were 8-5 winners in No. 3 doubles. Dave Bounaiuto (East Greenwich, R.I.) was the other winner for the Bison with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 win in No. 3 singles.
The Chargers (12-6) are scheduled to head to Bristol, R.I. on Tuesday, April 22 at 2 p.m. to take on Roger Williams University in a TCCC semifinal. Nichols' season ends with a 4-14 record.
