Bison Falter in Second Half Against Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State College overcame a four-goal first-half deficit en-route to an 11-9 victory over visiting Nichols College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Elliot Field.

 

Emily Swan notched her second consecutive hat trick to go along with four assists to help the Falcons improve to 4-5 overall. Stephanie Tenczar recorded five goals for the Bison but it was not enough as the club fell to 4-6 overall.

 

Tenczar scored four of her team's first seven goals as Nichols raced out to a 7-3 cushion with 4:34 to play in the first half, but Swan netted an unassisted goal before the close of the half that cut the lead to 7-4 and set the tone for the final 30 minutes of action.


The Falcons scored the first three goals of the second on goals by Kaitlyn Kelley, Swan and Ashley Massa to tie the game at 7-7 with 19:41 remaining in regulation. Jessica Porter put the Bison back out in front, but Swan and Danielle Pelletier put Fitchburg back in front 9-8. Tenczar would knot the game for the final time at 9-9 with 13:52 to play before Tessa Leahy and Pelletier got the game-winning and insurance goals for FSC.

 

Fitchburg State goalkeeper Ashley Davison made 10 saves to record the victory while MaryKate Bednarz turned away six shots for the Bison.
