DUDLEY, Mass.- Nichols College recognized the outstanding accomplishments of its men's hockey and women's basketball teams in a ceremony held today in the dining hall. Director of Athletics Charlie Robert announced the long list of team and individual records set by each team this season. The men's hockey team advanced to the ECAC Northeast Finals for the first time in school history and had a school record 20 wins while the women's basketball team played in the ECAC Semifinals and tied the school mark with 21 wins.
Below are a list of highlights from the 2007-08 Men's Hockey and Women's Basketball Seasons.
Men's Hockey
-Most Wins in a Season (20)
-Best Overall Record in the ECAC Northeast (20-7-1)
-First-Ever Appearance in ECAC Northeast Championship Game
-Coach Izzi is already the winningest coach in program history (55 career wins)
-Anthony Monte and Jeff Bieber earned Second Team All-ECAC Northeast honors.
-Anthony Monte was also named a semifinalist for the Canconnon Award as the top American born Division II/III New England Player of the Year.
-Anthony Monte tied Zeke Costello's assist record with 29 this year. He ranked eighth in the nation in point scoring. He moved up to second all-time with 71 career goals, seventh all-time with 59 assists and third all-time with 130 points.
-Keith Fink broke the all-time school saves record midway through the season. He now has 1,869 saves in his career.
-Ryan Gervais is now just 8 points away from 100 for his career.
Women's Basketball
-Tied school record with 21 wins
-Best Overall Record in The Commonwealth Coast Conference
-Broke team records for points, rebounds, steals, and free throws made in a season
-MaryLynn Skarzenski was named to the All-TCCC First Team for the third time in her career. She was also named the Defensive Player of the Year. She has already broken the school record for career steals and assists. MaryLynn ranked fifth in the country in assist/turnover ratio, sixth in steals and 18th in assists.
-Curtia Humbert received an All-Conference Honorable Mention. She led the team in scoring this season.
-Defeated eventual conference champion Colby-Sawyer for the first time since 1988 during the regular season.
-Selected to play in the ECAC Tournament for the third straight season.
