Bison Fall to WestConn, 10-6

DANBURY, CT- Sophomore Adam Lanehart (Redding, CT) scored five goals and senior Dennis Skarda (Danbury, CT) handed out four assists to lead Western Connecticut State University to a 10-6 victory over Nichols College at the WestConn Athletic Complex Monday evening. Lanehart now leads the Colonials in goals scored for the season with nine, while Skarda is tops in assists with eight.

Also scoring for WestConn were freshman Tom Begley (East Islip, NY) with two goals, and sophomore Andrew Barbieri (Islip Terrace, NY), junior Joseph Aitken (Lakville, CT), and freshman Mike Barnao (Sayville, NY), who each scored one goal.

Leading the attack for Nichols were Timothy Ahern (Boca Raton, FL) with two goals, and Brian Gattie (Plainfield, MA) and Sean Tarrant (Norwalk, CT), each with two assists.

WestConn controlled the action early scoring the game's first four goals. Nichols scored late in the first period, but the Colonials won the second period by a 4-1 margin and went to the locker room with an 8-2 lead at half-time. After a scoreless third period, Nichols turned up the intensity on offense scoring four goals, but the comeback fell short and WestConn took the victory, 10-6.

Junior Kyle Wood (Hyde Park, NY) earned his third victory of the season in goal for WestConn after making 6 saves. Austin Healy (Westford, MA) made 16 saves in goal in a losing effort for the Bison.

WestConn's record now stands at 3-0 on the season, while Nichols College falls to 0-2.
