Paxton, Mass.- The Nichols women's basketball team improved to 14-6 overall and 6-2 in TCCC play with a convincing 77-37 victory at Anna Maria on Wednesday. Fourteen players scored for the Bison as they overwhelmed the Amcats with an aggressive offense attack from the opening whistle. Sophomore Curtia Humbert (Bridgeport, Conn.) led Nichols with 12 points.
The Bison opened the game with a 22-6 run fueled by Humbert and junior MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.). Skarzenski scored an early basket, then Humbert blocked a shot by Anna Maria's Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.). Humbert scored at the other end, and after an Anna Maria turnover, Skarzenski hit a three pointer. Nichols early run was also aided by the shooting difficulties of Anna Maria as it only hit one of its first 12 shots from the floor.
Eagles scored a game high 20 points while sophomore Maggie Sielawa (Webster, Mass.) grabbed a game and career high 17 rebounds for Anna Maria.
Skarzenski finished with seven points, six assists and four steals. Senior Katie Fondelheit (Killingly, Conn.) and sophomore Samantha Foote (Schuylerville, N.Y.) each had eight as well for Nichols.
Anna Maria drops to 1-19 overall and 0-8 in TCCC action. Anna Maria next hosts Wentworth on Saturday, while Nichols travels to Gordon.
