Men's Basketball Rolls Past Regis, 91-71

DUDLEY, Mass.- The Nichols men's basketball team earned a 91-71 victory over visiting Regis on Wednesday evening in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The Bison led from start to finish, going up by as many as 32 points. Nichols is now 9-15 overall and 5-7 in the conference while Regis falls to 8-16 overall and 2-10 in TCCC action. Sophomore Ryan Wilcox (West Granby, Conn.) led all scorers with 16 points in the win while senior Chris Vallee (Fitchburg, Mass.) recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

 

Sharp shooting allowed the Bison to go into the locker room with a 51-36 lead. Vallee led the charge with 12 points off 5-10 shooting while freshman Chris Smith (Moosup, Conn.) dominated the paint, scoring ten points on 4-7 shooting. Nichols shot 51 percent in the half to Regis' 35 percent.

 

Nichols upped its lead to 25 with a 16-7 drive to start the second half. A three by senior Eric Foster (Rochester, N.H.) followed by a break-away lay-up by freshman Matt Lindberg (North Easton, Md.) gave the Bison their largest lead of the game, 81-49, with 7:13 left.

 

Lindberg tied his season-high with 14 points in tonight's win off 5-9 shooting, including 3-6 from downtown. Smith chipped in with ten points and nine rebounds. In all, 11 Bison registered a field goal.

 

Regis was led by freshman Jimmy Irmiter (Chicago, Ill.) with 15 points. Junior Mark Barile (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and freshman Bryan Little (Hartford, Conn.) each added ten. Freshman Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine) hauled down 11 rebounds as well.

 

Despite winning its last three games, Nichols will not advance to The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament for the first time in five seasons. The Bison will close out the season at home versus the University of New England at 1 p.m. Seniors Chris Vallee, Ron Powers and Eric Foster will be honored before the game.
