POMFRET, Conn.- Junior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) scored the game-winning goal just six seconds into overtime as the men's hockey team downed Suffolk 2-1 in ECAC Northeast action on Saturday at Jahn Rink. Junior Cole Ruwe (Pekin, IL) and sophomore Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, MI) assisted on the goal. The Bison improve to 17-5-1 overall and 11-3 in the conference with the victory.
Each team traded goals in the first period before settling into a defensive battle. Freshman Will Munson (Corona, CA) got the Bison the board first, 7:14 into the game with the assists coming from sophomore Eric Cremer (Chelsea, MI) and junior Jeff Bieber (Littleton, CO). Suffolk answered back just under three minutes later when senior Dan Pencinger (Randolph, NJ) scored off passes from junior Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, CA) and freshman Zach Scienzo (Concord, NH).
Suffolk out-shot Nichols 14-9 in the first while each team got off ten shots on net in the second. The Bison outplayed the Rams in the third, out-shooting them 12-4 but could not get on the scoreboard. Gervais' goal in overtime was his 21st of the season.
Nichols will wrap up the regular season this week, playing at Western New England College on Tuesday and hosting UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
