Men's Hockey Outlasts Salve Regina, 4-3

PORTSMOUTH, R.I.Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill.) scored a power-play goal with 1:33 left in the third period to lift Nichols College to its seventh-straight win of the season, a 4-3 victory over Salve Regina Monday evening. Gervais added a pair of assists to record the 100th point of his career and lead the Bison to a perfect 7-0 record on the season. Nichols improves to 4-0 in ECAC Northeast action.

Nichols took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission, but allowed Salve Regina (1-5-1, 1-3-1 ECACNE) back into the game with a pair of tallies from Connor McCahill in the second and third period before sophomore forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) delivered a pass from behind the net and senior forward Gervais who drilled the game-winning goal with 1:33 left in regulation.

Nichols finished 3-for-7 on the power play in the game, marking the second-straight game with three power-play markers.

 Joe Colaianni put Salve Regina on the board just 1:38 into the game with a powe-play goal, but the Bison responded with three-straight goals in less than five minutes, including two with the man advantage.  

Eric Cremer (Chelsea, Mich.) converted feed from Jeff Bieber (Littleton, Colo.) and Gervais to get things rolling at 2:33 of the first on the power play, and Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich.) followed with assists from Matt Sayer (Lowell, Mass.) and Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) just over three minutes later for a 2-1 lead.

Brett Englebright (Pekin, Ill.) capped the first period scoring with his first collegiate goal at 7:20, assisted by Gervais and Cremer to give the Bison a 3-1 lead headed into the first intermission.

Colaianni scored 3:57 into the second period to cut the Bison's lead to one at 3-2, and then netted the equalizer at 16:42 of the third.

Senior netminder Keith Fink (Easton, Md.) made 28 saves, including 14 in the final frame, in his fifth win of the season, while Pat Enloe stopped 44 Nichols shots.

The Bison, who are off to the best start in program history, travel to New England College Saturday at 7 p.m.
