Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass.—The Keene State women's basketball team, led by junior Kristin Degou's 17 points, defeated Nichols College 61-47 in an evening game Tuesday. Degou made five of eight three-point attempts in the win.

Keene State jumped out in front early, scoring the first seven points of the game. The Owls kept the lead for most of the first half, until Nichols went on an 8-0 run late in the half, capped off by a foul line jumper by senior MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.), giving the Bison their first lead at 19-18.

The Owls came back by making three 3-point field goals, two by Degou and one by senior Michele Boudreau. The first half ended with Keene State ahead, 28-21.

The Owls opened the second half with five straight points, giving them a 12 point lead. Nichols stayed in the game, cutting the Owls' lead to five with 6:15 to go on two free throws by junior Margaret Lilly (Ashfield, Mass.). Lilly scored 12 points in the game, and was a perfect 10-10 from the line.

That is as close as the Bison would get, as the Owls went on a 9-0 run, pulling away from the Bison with only two minutes left.

Keene State shot 39% from the field with 25 points off turnovers, while holding Nichols to 27%.

After scoring nine points in Tuesday's effort, Skarzenski needs only 21 more to join the Nichols College 1,000 point club.

With the win, Keene State improves to 3-0 overall; the Bison drop to 1-1.

Next, Nichols travels to Worcester to take on WPI, Friday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m.  in the Worcester City Tournament. Keen State hosts the KSC Tip-Off Tournament this weekend, facing Johnson & Wales in the first round Friday at 3 p.m.
