Men's Hockey Wins Fourth-Straight, 3-1 Over Westfield State

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Nichols College men's ice hockey team ran its win streak to four games with a 3-1 win over Westfield State Sunday evening at June R. Levy Rink. The Bison held a 1-0 lead after two periods, and potted a pair of goals less than a minute apart in the third period, sparked by senior Ryan Gervais' (Chicago, Ill.) first tally of the season.

Jeff Bieber (Littleton, Colo.) put Nichols (4-0-0, 2-0-0 ECACNE) on the board with a power-play goal at 8:25 of the middle frame Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ont.) passed the puck from the top of the right circle to JoJo Bojanowski (Washington Township, Mich.) at the left point. Bojanowski snapped the puck to Bieber, who fired a slapshot from the center

Gervais, who was planted at the netfront, one-timed a centering pass from behind the net by Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich.) for a 2-0 lead at 4:46 of the third.

Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) struck just 54 seconds later with his fourth goal of the season when he tipped in Cole Ruwe's (Pekin, Ill.) shot from the high slot. Ella was credited with the second assist.

Westfield State (1-1-1, 1-1-0 ECACNE) prevented the shutout with 17.7 seconds remaining in the game when Dennis Zak (Dover, N.J.) one-timed a centering pass from behind the net by Mike Muolo (Stoneham, Mass.). Dave Ciminelli (Coppell, Texas) slipped Muolo the puck from the right circle to earn the second assist.

Keith Fink (Easton, Md.) made 20 saves in his fourth win of the season, while Ian Wilson (Tulsa, Okla.) stopped 32 shots in his first loss; he stands at 1-1 on the year.

The Bison held a 35-21 shot advantage, and went 1-for-4 on the power play while holding the Owls 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Nichols is back in action at Worcester State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., while the Owls host Salve Regina at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
