Wentworth came out firing early in the first period before settling into a defensive battle. The Leopards were able to grab a 1-0 lead late in the frame as Lewandowski tucked one in from the right corner of the net past junior Keith Fink (Easton, MD).
After killing off a five on three penalty, Wentworth quickly made the transition and scored off a rebound early in the second period. Lewandowski again scored the goal while freshman Geric Brodt (Anchorage, AK) earned the assist with his initial shot. The Leopards took a 3-0 lead when freshman Jeff Fedyk (Calgary, AB) scored on a power play off passes from Lewandowski and senior Matt Koehler (Pembroke, MA).

After going 0-6 on the power play, the Bison finally were able to take advantage on their seventh opportunity, a five on three, with 1:37 left to play to make it a one goal game. Junior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) scored the goal, his 16th of the season, while juniors Cole Ruwe (Pekin, IL) and Anthony Monte (Chicago, IL) assisted.
With Wentworth still playing a man down, Nichols looked to score the equalizer but the Leopards penalty kill unit stood strong, denying the Bison of another goal.
