POMFRET, Conn.- Nichols College scored five goals in the opening period to cruise past Franklin Pierce, 9-5, in ECAC Northeast men's hockey action on Saturday night at Jahn Rink. Junior Anthony Monte (Chicago, IL) scored two goals and assisted on two others while junior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) posted four assists. The Bison improve to 12-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference while the Ravens fall to 4-15 overall and 2-10 in the ECAC Northeast.
Nichols stormed out to a 5-1 lead at the end of one. Freshman JoJo Bojanowski (Washington Township, MI) got the scoring started 1:39 into the game. Freshman William Sabia (Ridgefield, CT) then made it a 2-0 contest with 8:14 left. Junior Cole Ruwe (Pekin, IL) gave Nichols a 3-0 lead with his eighth goal of the year 26 seconds later.
The Ravens cut into the lead when sophomore Phil LaBreck (Thorton, NH) netted his ninth goal of the season with 3:52 left in the period. The Bison scored two more however before the end of the frame to head into the locker room with a four-goal lead.
Franklin Pierce fought back in the second, out-scoring the Bison 2-1 in the early going to make it a 6-3 contest. Junior Jeff Kasper (South Boston, MA) scored 3:49 into the period while junior Jay Stempniak (West Seneca, NY) added another goal following a goal by Monte.

Sophomore Donny Wynia (Minneapolis, MN) came in to relieve junior Keith Fink (Easton, MD) and held the Ravens scoreless for the rest of the period. Nichols went on to take a five-goal lead, 8-3, with a pair of goals in the final five minutes.
Nichols tacked on one more goal in the third as Bojanowski tallied his second goal of the game 6:13 into the period. Franklin Pierce's Eric Spalt (Barnstable, MA) scored at the 12:37 mark while freshman Sean Woodring (Rogue River, OR) closed out the scoring for the 9-5 final.
Freshman John Haley (Shelbourne, VT) recorded three assists for Nichols while sophomore Eric Cremer (Chelsea, MI), freshman Billy Sabia (Ridgefield, CT) and Ruwe all finished with one goal and one assist each. Senior Joe Fields (Towamencin, PA) had a pair of assists for Franklin Pierce in the loss.
The Bison will end its four-game home stand tomorrow night when it hosts Wentworth at 8:00 p.m.
