Women's Basketball Cruises Past New England College, 63-27

DUDLEY, Mass.- Nichols held New England College to a season-low 27 points in a 36 point victory on Saturday afternoon in TCCC women's basketball action. The Bison dominated the glass by a 56-38 margin and held the Pilgrims to just 17 percent shooting. Sophomore Curtia Humbert (Bridgeport, Conn.) led all scorers with 14 points while junior MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) added 11. Nichols improves to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in TCCC action while NEC drops to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

 

NEC went without a field goal for nearly five minutes as the Bison secured a 12-point lead in the early going, 14-2. Nichols took advantage of several turnovers by the Pilgrims throughout the half as the lead ballooned to 25, 32-7, with 3:38 left until halftime. A three by Nichols' sophomore Alena Jasinski (Canton, Conn.) made it a 37-16 contest heading into the locker room.

 

The Pilgrims recorded just three field goals in the second half as they shot a dismal ten percent. A jumper by freshman Katie Griffin (Lawrence, Mass.) with 8:39 left proved to be NEC's last field goal of the game as Nichols cruised to the 63-27 victory.

 

Freshman Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action off the bench for the Bison. In all, 13 players scored for Nichols.

 

Junior Katie Plankey (Columbia, Conn.) led the Pilgrims with six points. Junior LaShawnda Wilson (Burlington, Vt.) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

 

Nichols will continue TCCC action this Wednesday, Jan. 23, when it hosts Salve Regina at 6 p.m. New England College will host Regis College at 5:30 p.m. that same evening
