Dudley, Mass.- Behind goals from juniors Chelsea Blair (Blanford, Mass.) and Kaila Gray (Pembroke, N.H.), the Nichols women's soccer team defeated visiting Anna Maria, 2-1, in TCCC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Bison to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference while the Amcats slip to 1-7-1 overall and 0-6-1 in TCCC competition.
Blair tapped in a rebound off a shot taken by sophomore Jen Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) to open up the scoring 28:57 in. Gray scored what proved to be the game-winner late in the half off a nice lead pass from freshman Katelyn Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.). Gray dribbled into the box uncontested and blasted one into the top of net.
Anna Maria found the back of the net on one of its three shots on goal in the second half. Freshman Ashley Hubacz (Mapleville, R.I.) got her shot from inside the six yard box past Nichols keeper, junior Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) with 9:25 left to play. It was her first collegiate goal.
Junior Karine Almeida (Brockton, Mass.) recorded six saves for the Amcats while freshman Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) posted one save in the first half for the Bison. Levesque stopped two of three shots in the second.
The Bison will continue action this Saturday, when it travels to New England College for a 12 p.m. game. Anna Maria will face NEC on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
