Northampton, Mass.- The Nichols field hockey team recorded its seventh straight victory on Monday, shutting out Smith College, 2-0, in non-conference action. Sophomore Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 15:38 into the match while junior Lauren Pettoruto (Windham, N.H.) added the other goal eight minutes later. The Bison are now 7-1 on the season while Smith falls to 2-5.

The Bison were out-shot 14-8 on the night but sophomore MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) was spectacular in net, stopping all 14 shots to earn her fifth shutout in goal. The school record for shutouts in a season by a Nichols team and an individual goaltender is seven.

Nichols will look to push its win streak to eight on Wednesday when it hosts defending TCCC Champion New England College at 7 p.m. The Pilgrims will be coming to Dudley with a 4-4 overall record and 1-1 mark in the TCCC. Nichols is currently 2-0 in the conference. Last season, the Bison fell in both meetings with the Pilgrims, including a 4-1 loss in the conference semifinals. New England College went 20-3 in 2006, a new program record.
