Dudley, Mass.- The Nichols women's soccer team defeated visiting Salve Regina, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in TCCC play. Junior Kaila Gray (Pembroke, N.H.) assisted on the game-winning goal scored by fellow junior Chelsea Blair (Blanford, Mass.) and scored a goal of her own to lead the Bison. It was Nichols first win over the Seahawks, now 2-6 overall and 2-2 in TCCC action, since the 2002 season.

 

Blair scored what proved to be the game-winner 14:12 into the match. Gray then made it a 2-0 contest at the 32:45 mark with her fifth goal of the year. Freshman Kara Trzasko (Huntington, Mass.) gave Nichols a 3-0 lead with her second goal of the season eight minutes into the second half. Freshman goalie/midfielder Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) capped things off with her second goal of the year with eight minutes left to play.

 

Despite the final score, Salve Regina out-shot Nichols 21-14 on the day. Johnson posted five saves in the first half for the Bison while junior Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, MA) made eight big saves in the second. Sophomore Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded eight saves in net for the Seahawks.

 

Nichols will be back in action on Monday when it travels to Regis for a 4 p.m. game.
