Field Hockey Earns Sixth Straight Win with 12-0 Shutout over Regis

Dudley, Mass- The Nichols field hockey team ran its record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the TCCC with a record-breaking 12-0 triumph over Regis College, now 0-9 and 0-2 in conference play, on Saturday at Vendetti Field. The Bison have now won their last six games dating back to Sept. 4 and are off to one of their best starts in history. Nichols 12 goals tied the school record from 1984 for most goals in a game. Sophomore Emily Stearns (Mansfield, Mass.) led all scorers with three goals in the win. Freshman Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.) added two goals and two assists as well.

 

Nichols didn't waste much time getting on the board and never looked back as freshman Courtney Flagg (Spofford, N.H.) scored just 42 seconds into the game. It was her first collegiate goal. Clinton scored her first goal of the match at the 5:12 mark. Freshman MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, Mass.) assisted on both goals.

 

Senior Stephanie Magni (Newtown, Mass.) made it a 3-0 contest when she scored her first goal of the season at the 9:48 mark. Nichols went on to score four more goals before the end of the half to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Scoring for the Bison were freshmen Samantha Lacerra (Watertown, Mass.) and Amber Cottrell (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.), junior Jackie Dwyer (Endfield, Conn.) and Stearns.

 

Nichols tacked on five more goals in the second half to walk away with its biggest win of the season. Clinton scored her second goal of the game early in the half while Lacerra and Flagg also notched their second goals of the game soon after. Stearns closed out the scoring with back-to-back goals.

 

In net, junior Kristin Tavares (Acushnet, Mass.) was kept busy, making 33 saves for Regis. Nichols will be back in action on Monday at Smith College. Regis will host Anna Maria on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
