New Haven, Conn.- The Nichols men's soccer team won the 2007 Albertus Magnus Tournament with a 3-0 victory against Mt. St. Mary on Sunday. The Bison went 2-0 at the tourney as they shutout Mitchell yesterday, 1-0. Senior Brian Giaccone (Enfield, Conn.) assisted on two of Nichols three goals, serving up a pair of perfectly executed corner kicks. Junior Stephen Mochun Jr. (Sutton, Mass.) picked up the shutout in net.
Nichols found itself up 2-0 just 17 minutes into the match with goals from freshman Ryan Wytrych (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and sophomore Beyen Kamara (Wesbster, Mass.). Wytrych headed in a free kick taken by senior Ryan Johnston (Woodstock, Conn.) in the 13th minutes while Kamara flicked in his second goal of the weekend off Giaccone's corner kick in the 17th minute. Senior Scott Thomas Gruner (Torrington, Conn.) added an insurance goal midway through the second half, heading in Giaccone's corner. Mt. St. Mary got just one shot off the entire game which Mochun handled in his first start of the season.
The Bison will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Worcester State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
