Dudley, MA- Freshman Nicole Johnson's (Westhampton, Mass.) goal with 17 minutes left to play broke a scoreless deadlock between Nichols and the University of New England on Saturday in TCCC women's soccer action. Johnson posted eight saves in net in the first half then came out of net in the second, scoring her first collegiate goal off a pass from freshman Jessica Ferris (Springfield, Mass.). The Bison have now won four straight games to improve to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in the conference while the Nor easters drop to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
Despite out-shooting Nichols 11-5 in the first half, UNE could not get on the board as Johnson stopped all eight of its shots on net. Sophomore Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) collected three of her five total saves in the first half for the Nor'easters.
Things evened up the second half as both team each got off six shots but Engel was unable to get to Johnson's shot after Ferris opened up the one-on-one opportunity in front of the net.
Nichols will be back in action this Tuesday, Sept. 18 when it travels to conference rival Roger Williams for a 4 p.m. game. The University of New England will host Regis College in TCCC on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
