Paxton, Mass.- The Nichols field hockey team opened up TCCC play with a 5-0 shutout victory over Anna Maria on Saturday. Sophomore Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.) and freshman Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.) led the Bison with two goals and an assist each. With the win, Nichols improves to 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in TCCC action.

Clinton opened up the scoring just 2:20 into the contest with Bailey earning the assist. Bailey then made it a 2-0 game with her first goal of the game one minute later on a penalty stroke. Clinton gave the Bison a 3-0 lead with her second goal of the game with 26:22 left.

Junior Lauren Pettoruto (Windham, N.H.) posted her first goal of the season just 1:33 into the second half while Bailey sealed the victory with her fifth goal of the year at the 4:13 mark.

Sophomore MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) recorded her second straight shutout in net, stopping all five shots she faced.

The Bison will be back in action this Tuesday, Sept. 18 at home versus MIT. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
