Dudley, MA- The Nichols women's soccer team posted its third straight shutout victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Newbury College 9-0. The Bison were led by juniors Chelsea Blair (Blanford, Mass.) and Kaila Gray (Pembroke, N.H.), who each tallied two goals and an assist. The win improves Nichols to 3-1 on the season while the Nighthawks are still in search of their first win as a varsity team with an 0-2 mark.
Nichols used the first 45 minutes of the game to do most of its scoring as it went into halftime with a commanding 8-0 lead. Blair hooked up with Gray in front of the net for the games first goal at the 6:12 mark. Two minutes later Gray set-up freshman Kara Trzasko (Huntington, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal.
Junior Christina Palmerino (Southbridge, Mass.) gave the Bison a 3-0 lead when she tapped in a nice pass from freshman Kensey Marsland (Ware, Mass.). Gray knocked in her second goal of the game and her fourth in the last two games, with 17 minutes left.
Sophomores Kate O'Hara (Woodstock, CT) and Lindsey Barbo (Natick, Mass.) each tallied a goal in the half while Blair netted both of her goals in the first half as well to give the Bison their 8-0 halftime advantage.
Graduate student Danielle Rousseau (Worcester, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the second half for the 9-0 final. The goal was Rousseau's first of the season and 19th of her career.
Senior Michaela Lynch (Attleboro, Mass.) collected nine saves in net for the Nighthawks as Nichols out-shot them 35-2.
Nichols will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. when it will host the University of New England as part of Homecoming Weekend.
