Field Hockey Plays Keene State Even But Falters in End

Keene, NH- The Nichols field hockey team played a tough Keene State team to a 2-2 score with just 15 minutes left to play but the Owls went on to score four goals until the final buzzer sound to take a 6-2 victory in both team's season-opener on Saturday evening. Freshman Amber Cottrell (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) scored both goals for the Bison.

 

Playing her first game for KSC after transferring from the University of Michigan, sophomore midfielder Erin Dallas (Marlow, N.H.) led the Owls' attack with two goals and two assists. Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.), Marissa Boccaccio (Lyme, Conn.), Kat Trimmer (Hanover, N.H.), and Heather McDougall (Avon, Conn.) also found the back of the net for KSC. Freshman MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, Mass.) earned an assist on Cotroll's first goal.

 

Making her first start in goal for the Owls, senior goalie Jennifer McDougall made three saves.  Sophomore MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) stopped five shots for Nichols.

 

Nichols will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Clark.
