Bison Fall Short Against York at San Diego Surf N' Slam

The Nichols College men's basketball team returned to action on Friday night to take on York College in the San Diego Surf N' Slam Classic. The Bison fell by a score of 73-65, dropping their record to 2-6 on the year. The Cardinals, who led the entire way, improve to 7-5 with the win. Freshman Garret Bishop (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored a team-high 20 points for Nichols. York's Chris Roberts posted a game-high 23 points.

In the first half, the Cardinals led by as many as seven points on four different occasions. York took a 27-20 advantage on a lay-up by Roberts with 4:49 left before halftime. The lead would eventually be cut to six points as the Cardinals took a 31-25 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Cardinals extended their lead to as many as 16 points. Nichols would go on a late run, thanks to some strong outside shooting and cut the lead to 63-60 with just 2:06 left to play. York extended their lead back to five points which forced Nichols to foul down the stretch.   In the final minute of play, York went 6-6 from the free throw line to seal the win. 

Senior Chris Vallee (Fitchburg, Mass.) returned to the line-up for the Bison, scoring 14 points off the bench. Senior Ron Powers (Millville, Mass.) added 13 points.

Nichols will face Heidelberg College in consolation game of the San Diego Surf N' Slam tomorrow at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
