Men's Hockey Earns 6-4 Win over Framingham State in Season-Opener

Marlboro, Mass.- The Nichols men's hockey team posted a 6-4 victory over Framingham State at the Dunkin Donuts Cup on Friday evening. The Bison will face host Becker on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. in the championship game. Junior captain Cole Ruwe (Pekin, IL) led Nichols with a goal and three assists while junior assistant captain Anthony Monte (Chicago, IL) added two goals, both shorthanded, and one assist.
 
Monte scored 12:12 into the first period but the Bison quickly found themselves down 2-1 early in the second as the Rams scored back-to-back goals in opening minute of play. Monte tied things up with his second shorthander of the night in the fourth minute of the period, however, while Ruwe gave Nichols the lead for good in the ninth minute.
 
Freshman Will Munson (Corona, CA) netted his first collegiate goal in the 12th minute of the second period to give the Bison a 4-2 advantage. Freshman John Haley (Shelburne, VT) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 18th minute. Junior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) finished out the scoring for Nichols in the 19th minute of the second, giving the team a comfortable 6-2 lead.
 
Framingham State scored a pair of goals in the final period for the 6-4 final. In net, junior Keith Fink (Easton, MD) recorded 21 saves to earn his first win of the season. Overall, Nichols pummeled the Rams with 44 shots on net.
 
Nichols will look to capture the 2007 Dunkin Donuts Cup Title today when it faces Becker, a 6-2 winner over Assumption in opening round action, at 5:15 p.m.
