WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College scored the final three goals of the game in taking a 5-2 win over Nichols College and winning the Bowdoin-Colby Face-Off Classic on Sunday at Colby College's Alfond Rink.
The Polar Bears (2-1) took a 3-1 win over the U.S Under-18 National Team on Saturday in an exhibition game, while Nichols had taken a 4-2 win against Colby.
With the score tied 2-2, Bowdoin scored two goals in the final 1:14 of the second period to pull away. Duncan Smith tallied at 18:46 and then Leland Fidler got the fourth goal with just 13 seconds left in the period. Kyle Shearer-Hardy got an insurance goal in the third
period for the winners.
Bowdoin had taken a 1-0 lead after one period on a score by Mike Collins at 4:21.
Nichols (6-1-1) fought back just 1:47 into the second period when Ryan Gervais scored. After a goal by Bowdoin's Ryan Blossom at 3:33, the Bison managed to tie the game again when John Haley scored at 7:06.
Chris Rossi made 28 saves in goal for the Polar Bears, while Keith Fink stopped 43 shots for Nichols.
