POMFRET, Conn.- Junior
Ryan Gervais (Chicago, IL) scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Nichols men's hcokey team past Stonehill, 7-4, in what will count as a non-conference game. The Bison remain undefeated with a 4-0-1 record while the Skyhawks fall to 0-3-1. Nichols held a 3-1 lead before back-to-back goals by Stonehill tied things up at 3-3 with 5:30 left in the second period. The Bison scored three straight goals to grab a 6-3 midway through the third but the Skyhawks rallied once again, getting to within one, 6-5, with 4:44 left to play. Gervais secured the victory with an empty net goal with 25 seconds left.
Gervais got Nichols on the board first with his fifth goal of the year, 12:49 into the first period. Sophomore
Eric Cremer (Chelsea, MI) netted his third goal of the year on a power play just under four minutes later to give the Bison a 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
Stonehill's
Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, NH) cut the lead to one, 2-1, with his first goal of the season on the power play 8:32 into the second. Sophomore
Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, MI) answered Ninteau's goal less than three minutes later with his first of the season.
Juniors
Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, MA) and
Ryan MacInnis (Simsbury, CT) scored back-to-back goals for Stonehill in a 21 second span to tie the game at 3-3 by the 14:30 mark of the second. Sophomore
Donny Wynia (Minneapolis, MN) came in to relieve junior
Keith Fink (Easton, MD) following the Skyhawks second goal. Fink exited with 15 saves in 34:30 minutes of action.
The Bison went on to post three straight goals, two in the second and one midway through the third, to take a 6-3 lead. Freshmen
John Haley (Shelbourne, VT), Jean-Marc Biron (Atlanta, GA) and Gervais scored the goals. Biron's goal marked the first of his collegiate career.
Senior
Matt Curran (Scarborough, ME) helped get Stonehill within reach when he netted his third goal of the year with 8:15 left in the game. Senior Brian Davis (Foxboro, MA) then made it a one goal game when he scored the Hawks third power play goal of the game at the 15:16 mark.
Needing the game-tying goal, Stonehill removed freshman
Pete Lucchesi (Syracuse, NY) from net with 1:33 left despite having a man in the penalty box. Gervais was able to get past the defense and seal the victory with the empty netter with 25 seconds on the clock.
Wynia improves to 3-0 on the year with the win. He made ten saves in 25:30 minutes. Lucceshi recorded 30 saves for Stonehill.
Junior
Anthony Monte (Chicago, IL) tallied three assists on the night for the Bison while junior
Glenn Cacaro (Sioux Falls, SD) had two. Senior
Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore
Pete Roundy (Simsbury, CT) each had two for Stonehill.
Nichols will open up conference play this Tuesday, Nov. 20 when it hosts Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
