Dudley, Mass.- The Nichols women's soccer team snapped its three game losing streak with a 4-0 shutout over Eastern Nazarene on Monday in TCCC action. Junior Kaila Gray (Pembroke, N.H.) scored three goals for her second career hat trick. Senior Christina Palmerino (Southbridge, Mass.) added one goal and one assist. The Bison are now 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference while the Crusaders drop to 3-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in TCCC play.
Nichols first goal came off a bizarre play where Palmerino's long throw-in from the flank was deflected into the net by ENC keeper Brittany Hardie (Cinnaminson, N.J.) 5:05 into the game. Another Palmerino throw-in from the flank resulted in Nichols second goal of the game late in the half. Gray was able to get a head on the ball, which sailed high over Hardie and out of reach.
Gray added two more goals in the second half, her eight and ninth of the year. The Nichols defense allowed ENC just three shots all game as the Bison now have seven shutouts this season.
Junior Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) earned the shutout in goal as she stopped the Crusaders' two shots on net. Hardie finished with five saves for ENC.
Nichols will return to conference action on Wednesday at Western New England College while ENC will host Mitchell College in a non-conference match-up.
