NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2007 – Corey McKean (Lisbon, N.H.) scored three goals and Brian Doucette (Boxford, Mass.) added a goal and two assists as the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer downed the Bison of Nichols College 5-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Saturday afternoon.
The game stayed scoreless for much of the first half until with three minutes remaining in the first half, when Nic DeZenzo (Methuen, Mass.) put the Chargers on top 1-0 thanks to a penalty kick.
Early in the second half, Nichols' Michael Schell (South Windsor, Conn.) connected on a Beyen Kamara (Webster, Mass.) pass, sneaking the ball past a drawn out Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) to knot the score at 1-1.
The Chargers would not keep the game tied for long, as an offensive explosion in the game's final 15 minutes gave the Chargers the lead and win, as McKean scored his third, fourth and fifth goals of the season, two assisted by Doucette and Doucette added a goal of his own off a Colin Bellavance (Dudley, Mass.) assist, putting the game out of reach, 5-1.
Colby-Sawyer net-minder Will Berry made four saves in the win. Nichols' Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.) made 10 saves in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-6-2 overall, 5-2-1 in TCCC play while Nichols falls to 3-8-1 overall, 1-6-1 in conference play.
Colby-Sawyer next host's in-state rival New England College in a TCCC showdown on Thursday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m. while Nichols will host Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, October 9 at 4 p.m.
