Dudley, Mass.- Wentworth men's soccer out-shot host Nichols 36-9 en route to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Bison on Wednesday in TCCC action. The win lifts the Leopards to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference while Nichols slips to 3-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in TCCC competition. Senior Chris Hartmann (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led Wentworth with a goal and a pair of assists.
Senior Kyle Becker (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) scored off a rebound 9:46 into the game and the Leopards never looked back. Hartmann earned the assist as he took the initial shot which was deflected out by sophomore keeper Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.). Hartmann, who totaled nine shots, found the back of the net midway through the half to give Wentworth a 2-0 advantage. Freshman Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.) was credited with the assist.
Sophomore Taylor Webber (Waldwick, N.J.) netted his first goal of the year with just over ten minutes left until halftime with Hartmann registering his second assist of the game. Junior Kyle Nasman (Lenox, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 4-0 lead seven minutes into the second half while the Bison helped the Leopards with their final goal as it was deflected in off a Nichols' defender.
Johnson ended the game with a season-high 12 saves, including several remarkable stops. Senior Joe Simon (Pittsfield, Mass.) earned the win in goal for Wentworth, recording two saves in 60:14 minutes. Freshman Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine) made two saves in the final 29:46 minutes of the game.
Nichols will look to end its five game slump this Saturday when it travels to Colby-Sawyer for a 3 p.m. game while Wentworth will face Endicott on the road.
