Framingham St. Earns Come-From-Behind Win over Nichols, 4-3

DUDLEY, Mass.- The Framingham State women's soccer team earned a 4-3 victory over host Nichols College on Wednesday evening at Vendetti Field. Junior Jillian Landry (Southwick, Mass.) assisted on three of the Rams' goals, including the game-winner scored by junior Alicia Avery (Milford, Mass.) in the 75th minute of the game. The Bison end the season with an 8-11 record while Framingham State improves to 6-8-1 with the victory.

 

Playing in their final game at Nichols, seniors Meghan McManus (Northboro, Mass.) and Christina Palmerino (Southbridge, Mass.) along with graduate student Danielle Rousseau (Worcester, Mass.) helped the Bison pull out to a 3-1 lead in the opening 17 minutes of the game. McManus scored the game's first goal at the 4:37 mark with junior Chelsea Blair (Blanford, Mass.) earning the assist. Framingham's Katie Jeffery (Attleboro, Mass.) tied the game less than four minutes later.

 

McManus booted in her second goal of the game off a cross by junior Kaila Gray (Pembroke, N.H.). Gray then fed Rousseau on a breakaway to make it a 3-1 contest. The Rams got to within one, 3-2, with a goal by sophomore Kellen Dougherty (Amherst, Mass.) at the 37:27 mark.

 

The Rams out-shot Nichols 13-5 in the second half as they scored a pair of goals to earn the 5-4 win. Junior Brianna McCarthy (Shirley, Mass.) collected a 50/50 ball in front of Nichols' net and one-timed it past goalie Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) in the 69th minute. Avery went on to score the game-winning goal at the 75:43 mark when she headed in a cross by Landry from the far post.
