Dudley, Mass.- Wentworth extended its winning streak to four games as it defeated host Nichols, 3-2, on Tuesday in TCCC women's soccer action. The Leopards scored back-to-back goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Freshman Sarah Norkiewicz (Dracut, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 10:15 left to play. Wentworth improves to 5-5-1 overall and 5-2 in TCCC play while Nichols falls to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Senior Erika Hackett (Exeter, N.H.) got Wentworth on the board 16:16 into the contest when she scored from inside the box. It was her second goal of the season. The Leopards held onto their 1-0 lead into the second half until senior Meghan McManus (Northboro, Mass.) tied things up with her second goal of the season off a pass from grad student Danielle Rousseau (Worcester, Mass.) at the 54:01 mark.
Senior Martha Bergeron (Westfield, Mass.) gave the Leopards the lead back for good when she scored off a cross from freshman Megan Rogoff (Uncasville, Conn.) with 24:49 left in the game. Norkiewicz scored a key insurance goal for Wentworth at the 79:45 mark as Nichols went on to score with 2:28 left. The goal was deflected into the net by a Leopard defender.
Overall, Wentworth out-shot the Bison 21-8 and had back-to-back shots hit the cross bar. In net, freshman Kristen Vallone (Avon, N.Y.) posted two saves while junior Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) made five saves, including several diving stops.
The Bison will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 6 at Colby-Sawyer while Wentworth will play at Endicott.
