Late Flurry Lifts Men’s Hockey Past Becker, 4-1

Sposit nets his 10th goal of the season

Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Feb. 4) – First-year Joe Sposit broke a 1-1 stalemate at 5:32 in the third period and had a hand in a pair of goals over the next  1:57 of play to lead Nichols to a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon over visiting Becker in ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey action. With the win, the Bison (8-12-1, 6-4-0) snap a five-game skid against the Ice Hawks (8-12-1, 3-7-0) dating back to the 2010 ECAC Northeast tournament quarterfinal round.
 
Junior Zach Kohn picked up his 97th career point as he found an opening through a scrum in front of the net at 13:02. Junior Bryan Gill sent the final pass as first-year Louie Educate also registered a point on the play.
 
A minute and 46 seconds later sophomore Korby Anderson found rookie David Moore alone in front of the net. Moore took the feed and sent it past the shoulder of the Nichols goalie.
 
The second period was scoreless with Nichols holding a 13-11 advantage in the shot column for the stanza.
 
Sposit began a flurry of goals 5:32 into the third period. The first came as the rookie scored his 10th goal of the season with help from sophomore Greg Strootman and senior Zach Hendrickson. Rookie Mike Schiavone knocked home a rebound 31 seconds later on a shot that was initially taken by Educate. Sposit would also have a stick on the marker.
 
The final tally of the game, and the spurt, came as Strootman's shot was redirected and collected by Sposit for the wrister. First-year Tyler Marek added an assist for the Bison.
 
Senior backstop Jacob Rinn made 32 saves in the win as senior Jake Rosenthal posted 34 for the Ice Hawks.
 
Nichols continues a three-game homestand when it hosts Suffolk for an 8:10 p.m. game on Wednesday night. Becker ventures to Wentworth on Thursday for an 8:00 p.m. showdown.
