Mascilak Named TCCC Rookie of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 1) -- Nichols College first-year forward Kyle Mascilak (Sparta, N.J.) has been named the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, for play ending Sunday, January 31. Mascilak averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this week and posted a career-high 28 points to lead Nichols to a 92-79 win over TCCC rival Western New England College.

 

Mascilak shot the ball extremely well for the Bison on the week, firing an impressive  80 % clip (12-of-15) from the field, including 75 % (3-of-4) from downtown, and also converting 82% (9-of-11) from the charity stripe.

 

In just his second career start, Mascilak added nine rebounds against WNEC, helping the Bison to snap the Golden Bears' five-game win streak. He added eight points and four rebounds in a 78-66 loss at Curry.

 

A 2008 graduate of Sparta High School, Mascilak has started the last three games, and has appeared in all 18 for the Bison this season. He ranks second on the team with a .477 field goal percentage, and fourth on the team and ninth in the conference with a .771 percentage from the free-throw line. He is averaging 8.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

 

Nichols (9-9, 2-5 TCCC) hosts Anna Maria Wednesday evening in an 8 p.m. TCCC matchup.
