Danny Greiner (Columbus, Ohio) scored a pair of goals including one with 2:17 left to help host Nichols claim third place in the Worcester City Shootout for the second consecutive season as the Bison downed Division II Assumption, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Levy Rink. With the win, Nichols, receiving votes in the D3hockey.com Top 15, snapped a two game skid and improved to 5-2-0 while the Ice Dogs dipped to 1-9-0.

Tyler Beasley (Indianapolis, Ind.) attempted the shot for the hosts but Assumption junior netminder Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass.) made the stop to preserve the stalemate. Paul Prescott (Oakdale, Minn.) also picked up an assist on the marker. Greiner added another tally for the Bison as he combined with Prescott and Schwartz to score off the faceoff at the start of a power play at 18:27. Nichols outshot the Ice Dogs 11-6 as the Bison took advantage of their extra man opportunity. Assumption went 0-for-1 with an additional skater.
Sophomore Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass.) deposited a rebound to put the Ice Dogs on the board at 12:35 in the second period. Sophomore Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine) and freshman Alex Erban (East Haven, Conn.) each were credited with a helper on the tally. Later in the period, junior Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass.) evened the game shortly after a power play face off at 17:23 with aid from senior Kevin Meehan (Melrose, Mass.) and junior Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass.). Assumption led the Bison 15-12 on shots in the frame as the visitors went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Bison went 0-for-2.
For the game, Nichols outshot Assumption 41-36 and went 0-for-4 on the power play while the visitors went 1-for-5 with extra personnel.
Bison first-year goaltender
Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) turned away 34 shots in his collegiate debut and earned his first collegiate victory while Bowden slipped to 1-5-0 in a 38-save effort for the Ice Dogs.
Nichols jumps back into ECAC Northeast action with a trip to Wentworth, No. 15 in the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, on Thursday for an 8:15 p.m. matchup at Northeastern's Matthews Arena. Assumption hosts Saint Anselm at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
